Five ways Canadians can claim money, activate free subscriptions, earn promotional rewards or prepare for upcoming savings this week.
This week's roundup includes a class-action settlement, free student software, two Wealthsimple promotions, an upcoming Alberta rebate and ways to prepare for Amazon Prime Day. Here are five opportunities Canadians can claim, activate or prepare for from June 22 to 28, 2026.
1. Claim up to $300,000 from the Silk and Great Value settlement
Canadians affected by the 2024 recall of Silk and Great Value refrigerated plant-based beverages can now submit claims under a $7.5 million settlement. You may qualify if you purchased or consumed one of the recalled products. Compensation depends on the harm suffered. Eligible claims start at $400 for symptoms lasting up to 48 hours and rise to $1,500 or $7,000 for longer illnesses. Hospitalization claims may qualify for $10,000 to $150,000. Eligible claims involving a death can receive up to $300,000. The administrator may request receipts, packaging, bank records, medical documents or proof of your relationship to the affected person. Claims must arrive by October 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.

2. Activate free student subscriptions before graduation
Students finishing school this spring should check which free software subscriptions they can activate while their student status remains valid. The available offers include the GitHub Student Developer Pack, Microsoft 365 Education and Notion's education plan. Eligible students can also apply for Figma for Education, the JetBrains Student Pack and Autodesk Education Access. These tools can help with coding, design work, assignments, portfolios and job applications. Some providers require a school email, proof of enrolment or another verification method. Access may end or require renewal once you graduate. Autodesk, for example, offers renewable one-year educational access while you remain eligible. Apply only for tools you expect to use and record any renewal or expiry dates.

3. Earn Wealthsimple's 1% match and Monthly Millionaire entries
Wealthsimple continues to run its 1% Match for eligible investment transfers from another Canadian institution. You must register for the promotion before starting the transfer and move at least $25,000 within your 30-day qualification period. A $25,000 qualifying transfer earns $250, while a $100,000 transfer earns $1,000. The promotion covers up to $2 million in transfers, producing a maximum match of $20,000. Wealthsimple pays the reward through 24 equal monthly deposits rather than one lump sum. You must maintain the required balance for 730 days, subject to the promotion's withdrawal rules and 20% buffer. Eligible clients may also participate in Wealthsimple's ongoing Monthly Millionaire contest, which operates under separate terms. Check which promotions can combine before moving your accounts.

4. Prepare for Alberta's $100 Energy Rebate
Alberta has announced a reported $100 Energy Rebate for each eligible adult. The reported application period will run from July 1 to September 30, 2026. Expected eligibility includes Alberta residents aged 18 or older who filed a 2025 tax return and have household income of $225,000 or less. A couple could receive $200 if both adults qualify. Adult children or roommates may need to apply separately, depending on the final household rules. Recipients of the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, the Alberta Disability Assistance Program or Income Support may receive automatic enrolment. These conditions remain reported details until the province publishes its official application portal and final rules. Start from Alberta.ca and avoid rebate links sent through unsolicited texts, emails or social media messages.
