What Canoo unlocks
Canoo gives eligible adult newcomers one free app for discovery and redemption. The live app decides the exact benefit at each partner.
| Benefit category | What may be included | Check before claiming |
|---|---|---|
| Museums and galleries | Free or discounted admission at participating cultural institutions | Check exhibitions, timed tickets, guest limits, and whether special events are excluded. |
| National parks and nature | Participating parks, historic sites, and outdoor experiences | Confirm the exact site, admission component, vehicle or parking charge, reservation, season, and weather closure. |
| Science centres and family attractions | General admission or member-specific offers at listed partners | Read the children allowance, adult guest rule, age bands, and premium-experience exclusions. |
| Festivals, concerts, arts, and sport | Free tickets, contests, reduced tickets, or limited member releases | These can be time-limited or quantity-limited. Claim only when dates and travel actually work. |
| Brand and local deals | Member-only gifts or discounts shown in the app | Compare the final price, renewal, contract, shipping, and cancellation terms before treating the discount as savings. |
The strongest deal is the one you will actually use
Join Canoo in four steps, then use it well
Complete the join window while your qualifying document and account are easy to access.
- 01
Step 1
Download the Canoo app
Use the official App Store or Google Play link from Canoo. Joining and using the Canoo app is completely free. Canoo is a project of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, a national charity, and is separate from Canooq. Give the app only the permissions needed for registration and venue use, keep your app-store account reachable, and update the app before a planned visit so current partner listings and check-in instructions load correctly.
- 02
Step 2
Create and confirm your account
Register with a valid email address, open Canoo's confirmation message, and complete the account setup. Use an address you expect to keep because venue tickets, limited offers, and account recovery may depend on it. A child under 18 cannot open a separate membership, but an eligible adult member can bring up to four children on a participating-venue visit under Canoo's current general eligibility information.
- 03
Step 3
Verify your document
Choose the eligibility route that matches your current document. A permanent resident verifies with the required PR card when it was received within the past 5 years. A new citizen verifies with the citizenship certificate when the ceremony occurred within 1 year. Follow the in-app capture and identity instructions, check that names and dates are readable, and use Canoo support if the app cannot verify a valid document rather than creating duplicate accounts.
- 04
Step 4
Activate your membership
After verification, activate the membership at a point within the eligibility window. Canoo extended eligible memberships beyond the former one-year model, so current members can keep discovering benefits for years. The join window still matters: verification and activation must occur while the person meets the PR or new-citizen timing rule. Do not wait until the final day if a document, email, or support issue could take time to resolve.
- 05
Every visit
Read the venue listing before travelling
Search Canoo by location and filter places, events, or deals. Open the exact venue listing and confirm the current admission value, eligible guests, children, blackout dates, booking requirement, quantity limit, check-in window, identification, and whether a separate ticket must be reserved. Most venues support a quick in-app check-in, while others require advance planning. Take a screenshot of practical directions, but use the live listing as the final rule.
Eligibility and guest rules
Canoo's national eligibility page is simple. The visit itself can have partner-specific rules.
Permanent resident
PR card received within the past 5 years
The adult member verifies the PR card in the app. Canoo's current wording uses receipt of the PR card, while related material describes permanent residents within five years of landing. If the dates are unusual or the card arrived late, use the app's eligibility flow or Canoo support for the definitive account decision.
New Canadian citizen
Ceremony held within 1 year
The adult member verifies a citizenship certificate. A person who already joined as a permanent resident does not need to create a second membership after citizenship. Preserve the original account so past activation and member history remain connected.
Before the first outing
- Open the exact venue listing on the day of travel
- Confirm the named member will attend with the verified app
- Count adults and children against the listing's guest rule
- Reserve timed tickets when the listing requires them
- Check admission, parking, transit, food, and add-on costs separately
- Bring identification or documents named in the redemption instructions
- Review accessibility, opening hours, weather, and cancellation notices
- Keep the membership screen private until venue staff request check-in
Build a year-round Canoo habit
Start local
Save nearby museums, galleries, science centres, parks, and recurring events. Low travel cost makes the first redemption easy.
Plan by season
Use indoor cultural venues in winter, parks and festivals in warmer months, and check limited ticket releases throughout the year.
Recheck the app
Partners and perks change. A saved listing can gain new dates, limits, or redemption instructions, so reopen it before every visit.
Treat phone plans, banking promotions, merchandise, or subscriptions shown as Canoo deals the same way you would treat any offer: calculate the full cost, confirm eligibility, identify the renewal or payout date, and save the terms. The free membership is the benefit. It never makes an unrelated paid product automatically worthwhile.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Canoo cost?
The Canoo app and membership are free. Individual partner listings explain whether admission is free, discounted, limited, contest-based, or subject to another cost such as parking or a premium add-on.
Who can join Canoo?
Canoo currently lists permanent residents who received their PR card within the past five years and new Canadian citizens within one year of their ceremony. The member must verify the required document in the app.
Can children have their own membership?
Children under 18 cannot register separately. Canoo says each adult member may bring up to four children on a participating-venue visit, but the live venue listing controls the specific visit.
Does every Canoo attraction provide free entry?
No. Canoo includes free entries, discounted entries, events, contests, tickets, gifts, and partner deals. Read the value and redemption instructions for the exact listing.
Do I need to book before arriving?
It depends on the venue or event. Some support quick check-in at arrival and others require a reservation, ticket claim, or scheduled entry. Check the venue listing before travelling.
