Apple Upgrade is a U.S. Klarna lease for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Canada offers 0.00% APR iPhone financing through Affirm for consumers and Fair Market Value or $1 Buyout leases for businesses.

Apple leasing is available in the United States through Apple Upgrade. In Canada, the answer depends on who is buying: individual shoppers get monthly financing through Affirm, while businesses can apply for Apple Financial Services leases. The Canadian consumer checkout is financing, not the U.S. Apple Upgrade lease.

What is Apple Upgrade?

Apple Upgrade is Apple's U.S. lease program for eligible iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models. Apple says the program is provided by Klarna. You select a product and lease term, make monthly payments, then return the device or upgrade at the end of the term. Read the current Apple Upgrade terms before applying.

  • iPhone and Apple Watch: 12- or 24-month lease terms.
  • iPad and Mac: 24- or 36-month lease terms.
  • Lease provider: Klarna.
  • End of term: upgrade and return the device, leave and return it, or pay the purchase option fee to keep it.
  • Ownership: you do not own the device automatically at the end of the lease.

Apple Upgrade U.S. prices

Apple's U.S. Apple Upgrade page lists these starting monthly prices for a 24-month iPhone lease. Amounts are in U.S. dollars and shown before any applicable taxes or device-condition charges. Check Apple's live Apple Upgrade page before applying because prices, models, and eligibility can change.

Apple Upgrade iPhone prices in the U.S.

Starting monthly lease prices shown by Apple on July 28, 2026. Prices are USD and use a 24-month term.

iPhoneApple Upgrade priceApple starting retail price
iPhone 17e$17.99/monthFrom $599
iPhone 17$22.99/monthFrom $799
iPhone Air$28.99/monthFrom $999
iPhone 17 Pro$31.99/monthFrom $1,099

Apple calls these starting prices. An eligible trade-in can lower payments for your first lease term, but the trade-in credit does not continue when you upgrade. AppleCare is optional and billed separately. Early upgrades and early termination can create fees, and device damage can create an end-of-lease charge.

Who can use Apple Upgrade in the U.S.?

Apple's application asks for a Social Security number, a valid U.S. credit or debit card, and proof details that support U.S. residency. The applicant must be at least 18 or the age of majority in the state of residence. Apple also requires carrier connection for a leased iPhone through AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon. These requirements appear on the Apple Upgrade eligibility page.

  • The application uses a soft credit check, according to Apple.
  • Prepaid cards are not accepted for the lease application.
  • You cannot add a down payment to reduce the Apple Upgrade monthly payment.
  • AppleCare is not included in the lease price, but Apple says you can add coverage within 60 days.

Is Apple Upgrade the same as the iPhone Upgrade Program?

No. The older iPhone Upgrade Program used a 24-month 0% APR installment loan, included AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, and allowed an eligible member to upgrade after the equivalent of 12 payments. Apple now says that program is coming to an end. Apple Upgrade is a separate lease program provided by Klarna. You return the device at lease end unless you choose its purchase option.

Can you lease an iPhone from Apple in Canada?

Nothing has been announced at the moment about Apple launching Apple Upgrade for Canadian consumers, so there is no Canadian consumer launch date to report. Canada currently offers Affirm financing for iPhone purchases, while businesses can apply for Apple Financial Services leases.

Apple Canada also lists current financing terms for other products: iPad at 4.99% APR over 12 months, Mac at 7.99% over 24 months, Apple Watch at 4.99% over 12 months, and Apple Vision Pro at 7.99% over 24 months. See Apple Canada's financing page for the live offers.

Apple leasing is available for Canadian businesses

Apple Canada does offer true leases to businesses through its Apple Financial Services business-financing program. The Apple Canada business page lists two structures:

  • Fair Market Value lease: 12, 24, 36, or 48 months; eligible products include Mac, iPhone, and iPad; at the end, the business can upgrade, return the device, or buy it at fair market value.
  • $1 Buyout lease: 12, 24, 36, or 48 months; the business can upgrade or pay the $1 buyout to own the equipment.
  • Minimum order: $1,000.
  • Accessories: up to 20% of the amount financed, according to Apple's listed terms.

This is a business purchasing tool, not a public personal iPhone lease. A business should confirm approval, tax treatment, product eligibility, and end-of-term costs with Apple's Business Team before signing.

Apple leasing versus financing: which one fits?

  • Choose a lease when: you want the lowest monthly payment, expect to upgrade regularly, and are comfortable returning the device instead of owning it automatically.
  • Choose financing when: you want to keep the device, prefer a predictable payoff date, or live in Canada and want Apple's consumer monthly-payment option.
  • Choose business leasing when: your company needs several devices, wants a planned refresh cycle, or wants a $1 buyout path for eligible equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Is Apple Upgrade available in Canada?

Apple Upgrade is currently a U.S. program. Apple requires U.S. residency details, a Social Security number, an eligible U.S. credit or debit card, and U.S. carrier activation for a leased iPhone. Canadian consumers can use Apple's Affirm financing instead.

Does Apple Canada have leasing?

Apple Canada offers consumer monthly financing through Affirm and true business lease options through Apple Financial Services. The business program includes Fair Market Value and $1 Buyout leases.

How much is Apple Upgrade per month?

Apple's listed starting U.S. prices are $17.99 per month for iPhone 17e, $22.99 for iPhone 17, $28.99 for iPhone Air, and $31.99 for iPhone 17 Pro, each shown on a 24-month Apple Upgrade lease.

Do you own an iPhone after Apple Upgrade?

No. You return the device or upgrade at the end of the lease. You can keep it only if you pay the purchase option fee through Klarna.

Is Apple Upgrade cheaper than buying an iPhone?

The monthly lease payment is lower than paying the full price at checkout, but you do not automatically own the iPhone. Compare the total payments and the cost of keeping the phone before deciding.

Bottom line

Apple leasing now exists in the U.S. through Apple Upgrade, with iPhone lease prices starting at $17.99 per month for the iPhone 17e and reaching $31.99 per month for the iPhone 17 Pro on Apple's listed 24-month offers. Canada has no matching consumer Apple Upgrade option today. Canadian shoppers get Affirm financing for iPhone purchases, while Canadian businesses can apply for Apple Financial Services leases with Fair Market Value or $1 Buyout structures.
