What's on this page

This week's strongest Canadian money moves include Wealthsimple's $50,000 draw, a 15% IKEA workspace sale, up to $1,250 off Samsung laptops, BMO's new $900 offer, Apple education gift cards, Costco vouchers, Canada Strong Pass savings and a federal privacy-breach claim.

The biggest opportunity this week is Wealthsimple's $50,000 draw on Thursday, August 13. IKEA and Samsung deals also close within days. A fresh BMO bank bonus, Apple education gift cards, Costco vouchers, free national parks and a newly opened federal privacy-breach settlement round out the week.

1. Enter Wealthsimple's $50,000 draw this week

Wealthsimple's August Monthly Millionaire has its second weekly draw on Thursday, August 13. The prize is $50,000, and Wealthsimple is also drawing 100 winners for Monos Carry-On Pro suitcases that week. The live Monthly Millionaire page lists the full August schedule.

The remaining prizes get larger. The August 20 draw offers a 2027 Volvo XC90 with an approximate retail value of $102,613 or the cash equivalent. The August 27 draw pays $1 million. Eligible activity for the August contest must finish by August 26 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Registering and keeping at least $1 in an eligible Wealthsimple chequing account provides 500 entries. Net deposits and transfers earn one entry per dollar, successful referrals earn 5,000 entries, direct deposit doubles entries, and the daily in-app coin can add more. The monthly cap is 100,000 entries. Wealthsimple also provides a no-purchase entry route in the August rules.

2. Save 15% on an IKEA workspace by Wednesday

IKEA Family members get 15% off workspace furniture and accessories through Wednesday, August 12. Membership is free, and the IKEA Canada offers page displays the eligible workspace promotion.

The sale covers eligible desks, office chairs, drawer units, lighting and workspace accessories. Sign in to IKEA Family before an online order or present the membership in store. Prices are marked, selection varies by store and the offer runs while supplies last.

3. Save up to $1,250 on a Galaxy Book6 by Thursday

Samsung Canada is advertising up to $1,250 off Galaxy Book6 laptops through Thursday, August 13. Open the Samsung offers page first, then compare the eligible Galaxy Book6 models before choosing a configuration.

The same deadline applies to Samsung's trade-in savings of up to $975 on select Galaxy tablets. Galaxy Book6 savings depend on the model and configuration in your cart; tablet savings depend on the eligible device you trade in.

4. BMO just launched a new $900 bank bonus

BMO's new offer period began August 7 and runs through November 2. New eligible customers can earn $700 from a qualifying Performance or Premium chequing account, $150 from a Savings Amplifier Account and $50 from My Financial Progress. The current BMO offer page and banking-offer terms show the full requirements.

  • $700 chequing bonus: Open and fund the account by November 2, then complete a recurring direct deposit of at least $500 plus two qualifying bill payments or two qualifying pre-authorized debits by December 31.
  • $150 savings bonus: Open the Savings Amplifier Account by November 2, deposit at least $10,000 within 30 days and maintain at least $10,000 through the required 180-day holding period.
  • $50 planning bonus: Create one goal and apply one strategy in My Financial Progress by December 31 after qualifying for the chequing offer.

Eligible new chequing customers can also receive Walmart+ for up to 12 months under the separate BMO terms. Existing BMO chequing or savings customers and people who closed an account during the stated exclusion period do not qualify. The chequing and savings accounts must stay open through November 2, 2027, and monthly plan fees can apply unless you meet BMO's waiver requirements.

5. Get up to a $210 Apple Gift Card with education pricing

Apple's 2026 education promotion adds a $210 Apple Gift Card with an eligible MacBook Pro or a $140 Apple Gift Card with an eligible MacBook Air, iPad Air or iPad Pro. The gift card comes on top of the prices in the Apple Education Store.

The offer runs through August 27. Eligible buyers include postsecondary students, faculty and staff, parents buying for an eligible postsecondary student, and qualifying K-12 employees. Apple can request proof of eligibility, and the promotion terms list the eligible models and return rules.

6. Get a $50 or $100 Costco.ca voucher with a new membership

Costco's current membership offer gives new eligible members a $100 online voucher with a $130 Executive membership or a $50 online voucher with a $65 Gold Star membership. Use code COSTCO100 for Executive or COSTCO50 for Gold Star by August 30.

The $100 voucher requires a single Costco.ca purchase over $250, and the $50 voucher requires a purchase over $150. Costco emails the voucher within two to four business days. It works online through September 27, not in warehouses. The offer is for new members and people whose membership expired at least 18 months ago.

7. Use the Canada Strong Pass for free parks and cheaper travel

The Canada Strong Pass continues through September 7. Every visitor gets free admission to Parks Canada national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas, plus 25% off eligible Parks Canada camping.

Children 17 and under get free admission at national and participating museums, while ages 18 to 24 get 50% off. VIA Rail offers free travel for children 17 and under with an adult and 25% off for travellers aged 18 to 24. The official benefit details list the participating categories and conditions.

There is no pass to buy, download or register. Visit a participating site or book an eligible VIA Rail trip, and check whether a reservation is required before you go.

8. Apply for the Government of Canada privacy-breach settlement

Claims opened August 4 for the Government of Canada Online Account Privacy Breach Class Action settlement. Eligible claimants can apply online or by mail through February 3, 2027. Start with KPMG's official settlement details and eligibility checker.

The settlement concerns unauthorized access to CRA My Account, My Service Canada accounts and other Government of Canada accounts accessed with GCKey in 2020. Valid claims can pay up to $80 for time spent addressing unauthorized access, up to $200 for time spent addressing fraudulent use and up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses or identity-theft costs.

Class membership does not automatically produce a payment. KPMG says compensation is for people whose information was accessed during the credential-stuffing attacks between June 15 and August 30, 2020, with separate rules for each payment category. Canooq's Government of Canada data-breach settlement guide walks through the official eligibility route and claim categories.
