Weekly opportunities in Canada: win a condo, cut your phone bill and stack up to $200 in rebates

Wealthsimple is giving away an $837,200 Toronto condo this Thursday. Public Mobile has quietly dropped a 75GB Canada–U.S.–Mexico plan to $35 a month. And two credit cards come with cash rebates of up to $200 simply for starting the application through the right website.

That is a fairly ridiculous sentence, but it sums up this week rather well.

For September 14 to 20, I’ve focused on the opportunities that can save a meaningful amount of money or are interesting enough to tell someone about. There are a couple of unusually strong phone plans, two credit-card offers that can be stacked with Great Canadian Rebates, and a small collection of Amazon discounts that I already took advantage of.

Wealthsimple is drawing an $837,200 condo on Thursday

Wealthsimple’s Monthly Millionaire promotion is especially hard to ignore this month because the weekly prizes are actual condos.

The prize for Thursday, September 17 is a two-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom unit at The Georgian in Toronto, with an approximate retail value of $837,200. It is a pre-construction condo with occupancy currently expected around February 2027. The winner does not have to live there: once ownership is transferred, it can be occupied, rented or sold. There is no cash alternative, though, so the winner has to accept the property itself.

The contest is open to Canadian residents who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory, including Quebec residents. New and existing Wealthsimple clients can participate. The simplest route is to register for Monthly Millionaire and keep at least $1 in a Wealthsimple chequing account, which earns 500 entries. Deposits earn one entry per dollar, eligible referrals earn 100,000 entries, and the daily coin in the Wealthsimple app can add more. There is also a no-purchase entry method, and the September limit is 300,000 entries per person.

Public Mobile’s 75GB plan is now $35 a month

If your phone bill still begins with a 6 or a 7, this is the offer I would check first.

Public Mobile is offering 75GB of 5G data for $35 a month, down from $40. The data can be used in Canada, the United States and Mexico, and the plan includes unlimited talk and text, 1,000 international minutes and 2% back in Public Points.

That combination is unusually strong at this price. A Canadian who visits the U.S. a few times a year could save on the monthly plan and stop buying a roaming add-on every time they cross the border. Public Mobile runs on Telus’s network and is managed through an app, so it suits people who are comfortable handling changes and support online.

The Scotia Gold Amex comes with an extra $200 rebate

This is a good example of why it is worth checking a cash-back portal before applying for a credit card.

Scotiabank’s own offer includes up to 50,000 Scene+ points. You receive 30,000 points after putting at least $2,000 of eligible purchases on the card in the first three months, then another 20,000 points after reaching $7,500 in the first year. Scotiabank describes the full first-year package as worth up to $950.

Great Canadian Rebates is currently adding a separate $200 cash rebate for an approved application started through its link. That $200 is the particularly interesting part because it can more than cover the card’s $120 annual fee for the first year.

The Gold Amex earns 6 Scene+ points per dollar at participating Sobeys-family grocery stores, 5 points at other eligible grocery stores, restaurants and entertainment, and 3 points on eligible gas, transit and streaming purchases in Canadian dollars. It also waives the usual 2.5% foreign-transaction fee.

The offer is available on accounts opened by November 1, 2026. You will not qualify for the welcome offer if you currently hold, or held as a primary or secondary cardholder, a Scotiabank personal credit card during the past two years. The card also has a $12,000 minimum personal-income requirement.

Tangerine’s no-fee card can produce up to $175

The Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card is the gentler option here. It has no annual fee, and the current offer pays 10% cash back on the first $1,000 of eligible purchases made during the first two months after activation. Spend the full $1,000 and the bonus is $100.

Start the application through Great Canadian Rebates and there is another $75 rebate, bringing the potential total to $175. You must be a new Tangerine credit-card holder and complete the application through the GCR session for the extra rebate to track.

After the introductory period, the card earns 2% cash back in two categories you choose and 0.5% everywhere else. Sending the rewards to a Tangerine Savings Account unlocks a third 2% category. Groceries, restaurants, gas, recurring bills, public transit and home improvement are among the available choices, so it is easy to shape the card around expenses you already have.

Applications for the 10% offer close September 30, 2026. Applicants need at least $12,000 in gross annual income, must be Canadian residents and must meet Tangerine’s other credit criteria.
