Six ways Canadians can watch for benefits, use promotions, book travel deals, file claims, attend free events or activate student perks this week.

This week's roundup includes a July 3 benefit payment, Wealthsimple promotions, Canada Day travel sales, Silk settlement claims, free Canada Day events and student perks to activate before graduation. Here are six opportunities Canadians can claim, book, attend or prepare for from June 29 to July 5, 2026.

1. Watch for the July 3 Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment

The first Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment is scheduled for July 3, 2026. This is the new name for the GST/HST credit starting in July 2026 and it keeps the same quarterly rhythm with higher amounts for the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit year. CRA calculates eligibility from your 2025 tax return. The maximum annual amount is $679 for a single person, $890 for a couple and $234 per eligible child under 19.

2. Check Wealthsimple's 1% Match and Monthly Millionaire promos

Wealthsimple continues to offer its 1% Match on eligible investment transfers and its Monthly Millionaire contest. For the 1% Match, eligible clients register before starting a transfer and move at least $25,000 from another Canadian institution within the qualification period. A $25,000 qualifying transfer earns $250, while a $100,000 transfer earns $1,000. The promotion covers up to $2 million in transfers, producing a maximum match of $20,000 paid over 24 monthly installments. Monthly Millionaire adds prize entries through registration, chequing funding, net deposits, transfers, referrals and direct deposit.

3. Book Canada Day travel sales before July 3

Air Canada and WestJet are both running Canada Day travel sales with booking deadlines on July 3, 2026. Air Canada's offer page lists Canada Day sale fares for travel from July 2, 2026 to February 28, 2027 and bonus Aeroplan points on eligible bookings. WestJet's deals page lists Canada Day flight savings for booking by July 3 at 11:59 p.m. MT, also for travel from July 2, 2026 to February 28, 2027.

See more at Air Canada's offers page and WestJet's deals page.

4. File a Silk and Great Value settlement claim if you qualify

Canadians affected by the 2024 recall of Silk and Great Value refrigerated plant-based beverages can now submit claims under a $7.5 million settlement. Eligible claim amounts depend on the harm suffered, starting at $400 for symptoms lasting up to 48 hours and rising to $1,500, $7,000, $10,000 to $150,000 or up to $300,000 for eligible claims involving a death. The administrator may request receipts, packaging, bank records, medical documents or proof of relationship. Claims must arrive by October 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.

5. Find free Canada Day events near you

Canada Day brings free public events across the country. Canadian Heritage lists official Canada Day activities across Canada, including local celebrations and national programming. In the National Capital Region, the official schedule includes daytime activities, the national ceremony, an evening show and fireworks in Ottawa-Gatineau. Cities, museums, parks and local organizers also run free concerts, family programming and fireworks events.

6. Activate student perks before graduation access gets harder

Students finishing school can still unlock free software and education perks while their student status is active. Useful offers include the GitHub Student Developer Pack, Microsoft 365 Education, Notion for Education, Figma for Education, the JetBrains Student Pack and Autodesk Education Access. These tools support coding, design work, assignments, portfolios and job applications.
