The Federal Court approved the Sweet v. His Majesty the King settlement on May 5, 2026. Claims opened August 4, 2026 and must be submitted by February 3, 2027. The approved notice provides up to $80 for eligible access claims, up to $200 for eligible fraud claims, and reimbursement of eligible out-of-pocket expenses up to $5,000; payment amounts may be reduced based on approved claim volume.

Who can claim

People whose personal or financial information in a Government of Canada Online Account was disclosed without authorization between March 1 and December 31, 2020 may be class members. Payments are limited to eligible claimants covered by the settlement's specified unauthorized-access periods and account criteria.
